Luke Helms: Artist Statement

Luke Helms is a dynamic, multidisciplinary artist whose practice is an energetic exploration across painting, sculpture, and design. Rooted in the stark contrasts and urban vitality of his Kansas City origins, his work is now suffused with the brilliant light and optimism of San Diego, creating a powerful synthesis of raw emotional depth and vibrant color.

Current Mixed Media 2D Work 2024-2025

Helms’s foundational philosophy centers on the expressive power of line and form to create movement and joy. Whether channeling the fluidity of physical space into monumental raw clay sculptures or capturing nuanced harmonies on canvas, his art consistently prioritizes an uplifting and visceral engagement with the viewer. He leverages a mastery of color and spontaneous draftsmanship to translate complex emotions into accessible visual language.

As an artist, my lifelong love for fashion is a driving force behind my creative practice, viewing garments not just as clothing, but as wearable canvases and sculptural forms. This passion fuels my commitment to translating my original designs—often inspired by fine art principles, cultural narratives, and abstract concepts—into well-made, very durable made-to-order products that stand the test of time both in quality and style. By focusing on a limited number available of each design, I ensure every piece maintains its unique artistry and exclusivity, offering collectors a truly personal and lasting connection to my work that is both an investment in high-quality craftsmanship and a statement of distinctive style.
